Guest House « Keur Diame » in Dakar, Senegal « Keur Diame » means house of peace in Wolof, it is located in one of Dakar’s suburbs, but near the airport. It is meant to be a place where you will be able to relax and sit back after an excursion down town or after coming back from the country side. The sandy beach of “Yoff cimetière” is only a few steps away. The
10 double rooms are equipped simply but with the essentials such as fan
and mosquito net. The showers, with hot water, and the toilets are on
the first floor. Breakfast is included in the room price and if you
wish to take lunch or supper with us, we are very happy to take your
order. We offer Senegalese and European food. The meals are
served for all the guests at the family table which is a good occasion
to share travel experiences and invite to further
discussions.
I
work together with the same team already since several years and our
aim is to offer you a clean and tidy surrounding where security is a
priority and the general well being of our guests an unwritten law. I
am collaborating with very responsible drivers who would enjoy showing
you their country while driving you in their own cars. If you whish, I
happily help you to organise a trip to the many places of interest in
the country like the town of St. Louis, the region of Sine-Saloum or
the national park of Niokolo Koba and much
more.
Downtown
Dakar offers itself many places where you can appreciate the life in an
African capital, such as the colourful markets, the narrow but very
busy shopping streets, the harbour area but also the beautiful mosques,
museums and the old railway station built during the colonial period. I
invite you for the experience of African life in the city, with its
colours, noises, smells, laughter and its
business.
On
the other hand the small island Gorée offers you a quiet, rather
romantic image. While walking through its narrow streets, along the old
colonial style houses, you will appreciate this very charming
atmosphere. On the same time many things will remind you of its sad and
difficult past, the time when the African slaves were sent off from its
shores to America. Today Gorée is under the protection of the
UNESCO.
Other
one day trips are possible from Dakar, such as the “Lac rose” (the rose
colour lake), with its salt extraction, the village of tortoises, or
the park of Bandia with its animals For
quite a number of guests, African dances and drum playing is of their
special interest. I would be very glad to organise courses for you,
either on an individual or group basis. The teachers I work with are
very experienced artists eager to share their know how with you. Some words about my self:
Since
1987 I travel through Senegal and while living and sharing the daily
life with the population I learnt to appreciate their culture and
acquired some in depth knowledge of the very rich social life. In
2001 I moved definitively from Switzerland to Dakar and the formerly
more or less unknown African life got mine. I feel, that it is one of
my obligations to share my experiences and my knowledge with you, in
order to enhance individual and “soft” tourism, a tourism in contact
with the local culture in order to promote mutual understanding and
tolerance. I
would like to share this idea with you. Discover Senegal and its
culture with me. Let you guide by the peoples joy of living and let
your soul dance with the rhythm of Africa |
